How to Find Your Starlink Identifier for Activation

 When I started activating my Starlink kit, I was not sure which number Starlink wanted me to enter. The activation process uses a Starlink identifier, which can be found on the kit packaging, hardware, or in the Starlink app. Here is how I found mine.

Where to Find Your Starlink Identifier

1. Check the Starlink Kit Box

The easiest place to start is the original Starlink box. Look for the Kit Serial Number, which is printed on the shipping label or kit packaging.

It usually starts with KIT, followed by letters or numbers, such as KIT00000000. Starlink's activation page specifically shows the Kit ID as one way to identify your hardware.

2. Check the Starlink Hardware

If you no longer have the box, look for the serial number on your Starlink hardware. The location varies by model.

For example, on some newer Standard models, the Starlink serial number is located on the back near the connector port. On Starlink Mini, it can be found near the bottom of the kickstand.

3. Find the Identifier in the Starlink App

If your Starlink is already connected, the app is another easy way to find the identifier.

  1. Open the Starlink app.
  2. Connect your phone to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network if prompted.
  3. Open the app menu or go to the settings/advanced section.
  4. Look under the STARLINK section for the Starlink ID or Terminal ID.
  5. Copy the identifier exactly as displayed.

Starlink identifies the Terminal ID in the app as one of the available Starlink identifiers.

4. Do Not Add Extra Characters

When entering the identifier for activation, copy it exactly as shown.

For a Starlink ID displayed in the app, Starlink notes that you should not include “ut” if it appears before the ID.

5. Enter the Identifier During Activation

Once you have the identifier, open Starlink.com/Activate and enter it in the Starlink Identifier field. You may then be asked for your email address and whether you want to use a new or existing account.

6. What If You Get “Invalid Device ID”?

If Starlink shows an Invalid Device ID error, first check the identifier carefully. Make sure you have not confused letters with numbers or added extra spaces.

If the identifier is correct and the error continues, Starlink recommends contacting Support.

7. What If You Bought Starlink Directly From Starlink?

If you purchased the kit directly from Starlink.com, Starlink says this identifier step is not required in the same way. The identifier is primarily needed when activating kits purchased from an authorized retailer or through a transfer.

Final Thoughts

Finding your Starlink identifier is usually simple. I recommend checking the kit box first, then the hardware label, and finally the Starlink app if the equipment is already connected. Once you have the correct identifier, you can enter it during the activation process and continue with your Starlink account and service setup.
